Final Weeks at the Market During the Dog Days of Summer

Hi Market Friends!

It’s hard to believe, but we’re heading into the final weeks of this season’s Thomasville Farmers Market! There’s still plenty of time to stock up on farm-fresh produce, local goods, and handmade treasures before the season winds down. Don’t miss your chance to enjoy the bounty of summer while it lasts.

Speaking of summer…it’s the dog days. We know it’s hot, but it’s also the perfect time to bring along your four-legged family members for a stroll through the market. Leashed dogs are always welcome, and our vendors and shoppers love seeing those wagging tails! We’ll have a photo booth for shoppers and their canine companions, and the first ten dogs to arrive will receive a FREE plaid bandana, just in time for fall!

Because dogs deserve some local goodness too, here’s a simple Farmers Market Dog Treat Recipe you can make at home with many ingredients you’ll find right here at the market:

🐾 Farmers Market Dog Treats 🐾

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rolled oats (or whole wheat flour if your dog tolerates wheat)

  • ½ cup pumpkin purée (or mashed sweet potato)

  • ½ cup grated carrots or zucchini

  • 1 egg (farm fresh!)

  • 2 tbsp peanut butter (unsalted, no xylitol)

  • Optional: sprinkle of parsley (fresh breath bonus)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a bowl, mix together the oats/flour, pumpkin (or sweet potato), carrots (or zucchini), egg, and peanut butter until well combined.

  3. Roll dough into small balls or press flat and cut into shapes with a cookie cutter.

  4. Place on a lined baking sheet.

  5. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until firm and lightly golden.

  6. Cool completely before serving to your pup.

Storage:

  • Store in an airtight container up to 5 days.

  • Freeze extras for up to 2 months.

And don’t forget—now is also the perfect time to start thinking about preserving food for the cooler months ahead. Stock up on your favorite fruits and vegetables to can, freeze, or dry so you can enjoy the taste of summer all winter long. Ask our farmers about the best produce varieties for preserving—they’re always happy to share tips.

Here’s how to make the most of these final weeks:

  • Shop soon for the best selection of fruits, veggies, and baked goods.

  • Stay cool—bring water for yourself and your pup.

  • Support local by stocking up on seasonal goods and chatting with your farmers and makers.

  • Mark your calendar so you don’t miss the last few market days of the season.

We’re so grateful for your continued support of our farmers, artisans, and community. Let’s finish the season strong, with great food, wagging tails, and smiling faces.

See you at the market!
